Audio Description

Audio description is a language option on DVDs that verbally describes what is happening on screen. Settings, costumes, body language and other important visual clues are described as part of the soundtrack.

Audio description has many technological aspects that are similar to captioning and Red Bee Media Australia has exploited its experience in captioning in the establishment of its audio description facility.

DVD is the perfect medium for audio description because:

• One DVD can hold up to 26 different soundtracks for each program and AD is located on one of these tracks.
• No special equipment other than a standard DVD player is required for accessing the AD track.
